peace bootsContinuing with our Whole Armor of God series, today we’ll be looking at:

Ephesians 6:15

“…and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace…”

The fact that our feet are to be shod in peace shows just how important peace is to our defenses. It shields our every step. When we are in turmoil, confusion, and fear, our minds are usually racing a mile a minute, even in sleep. In these times, it is almost impossible to hear a clear message from God. When our minds are at peace and when we are at peace with our lives and the direction God is taking us in, we leave our minds and spirits open to hearing more often and more clearly from God.

This is why the devil tries so hard to disrupt our peace at every turn. I’m sure we have all had that one bad day (week, month, year, decade…) where everything that could possibly (and even a few impossibly) go wrong does go wrong…twice. I’m talking family troubles, work troubles, money troubles, friend drama, car problems, stubbing your toe, grocery bag breaking…everything! And these periods of unrest don’t contain themselves to just one or two days; they can last for super extended periods of time. Pretty soon peace becomes some kind of foreign concept that hovers somewhere in the atmosphere far out of reach. Sometimes it is just life playing out as it is wont to do, but most of the time it is Satan throwing everything he has at us in an attempt to keep us and peace as far away from each other as possible. He knows that if he can slow or even stop our stride by snatching our peace, he can keep us from hearing from God the way we need to and stop our progress and growth in the faith. If we’re not moving forward, we’re standing still and stationery target is always easier to hit. Pretty soon we’ll find ourselves inching backwards and negative progress is always the devil’s goal for us.
