You know, sometimes we Christians spend so much time praying and talking to God we don’t shut up long enough to hear him answer us. This is especially true when we enter those troubling periods. The harder our lives are at any particular moment, the longer, louder, and more we think we need to pray. In point of fact, it is often the opposite that is true.
We pray because we need to hear from God, not because he needs to hear from us. God already knows everything we need. He doesn’t need us to lay it out for him. Our prayer is a way to open a dialogue with God—a dialogue in which he should be doing most of the talking. Our prayer time should be a two-way conversation. We speak to God and he speaks back.
