Sunburst Crochet Tam Pattern

It’s Make-It-Yourself Monday and I’m bringing you this tam pattern perfect for the onslaught of autumn weather.

  • 2-dc puff st: (YO, insert hook in next space, yo, draw yarn through space, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook) twice in same space, yo, draw through all 4 loops on hook.
  • 3-dc puff st: (YO, insert hook in next space, yo, draw yarn through space, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook) 3 times in same space, yo, draw through all 4 loops on hook.
  • Chain 3 counts as dc at the beginning of each round
  • Colors: Marigold (A); Off White (B); Variegated Red (C)
  • There will be some leftover sts at the end of the increase and decrease round. Just work them as dc to the end of the round.

Pattern

Starting with color (A)

Ch 6 and sl st in first ch to form a ring

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 15 dc in ring, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch to join

Rnd 2: Ch 5, (counts as dc, ch 2) skip first st (dc, ch 2) in each dc around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch to join. Fasten off.

Join color (B) to any ch-2 space

Rnd 3: Ch 3, 2-dc puff st in first ch-2 space, ch 5, (3-dc puff st, ch 5) in each ch-2 space around, sl st in first puff st to join

Rnd 4: Sl st to center of first ch-5 loop, ch 1, (sc, ch 5) in each ch-5 loop around, sl st in first sc to join. Fasten off.

Join color (C) to any ch-5 loop

Rnd 5: Ch 3, 3 dc in first ch-5 loop, dc in sc, (4 dc in ch-5 loop, dc in sc) around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch to join.

After the first increase round

The next 3 rounds are increase rounds

Rnds 6-8: Ch 3, (dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch to join.

The next two rounds are decrease rounds. 2dctog is worked the same way as a 2-dc puff

Rnds 9-10: Ch 3, dc in next (dc in next 7 dc, 2dctog over next 2 dc) around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch to join.

Rnd 11: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch to join.

Rnd 12: Ch 3, (dc in next 3 dc, 2dctog over next 2dc) around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch to join.

Rnd 13: Ch 3, (dc in next 2 dc, 2dctog over next 2 dc) around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch to join.

Rnd 14: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch to join. Fasten off.

Join color (B)

Rnd 15: Ch 2, hdc in each dc around, sl st in 2nd ch of beginning ch to join. Fasten off.

Join color (A)

Rnd 16: repeat rnd 15.
